If you want a bathroom that feels timeless, relaxing, and spa-like, you can’t go wrong with an organic modern interior design style.
Have you ever stepped into a spa, or stunning hotel bathroom before and thought, “dang, if I could live like this everyday, I would be able to conquer the world!”
There’s just something about a beautifully designed, organic modern bathroom that can simultaneously calm you down into a zen-like nirvana, and inspire you to attack your goals with newfound vigor. The clean minimal lines, natural textures, lush green accents and calming herbal smell in the air – everything works together to help you tune out the chaos and feel brand new.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could get this feeling everyday, in the place where every day begins and ends?
The good news is, you absolutely can. With a few intentional upgrades and design choices, you can turn your bathroom at home into a spa-like, organic modern oasis.
Organic modern design is perfect for bathrooms because it blends the best of both modern minimalism and sustainable, natural design to promote a deep sense of well-being. Sleek, minimal lines create a peaceful, uncluttered base, while natural materials and earthy elements breathe life into the space and promote a sense of oneness with nature.
There’s a reason why most ultra-high end luxury resorts choose to feature organic modern bathrooms in their rooms. In an increasingly frenetic, non-stop world, there is nothing more luxurious than peace and calm.
Why You’ll Love an Organic Modern Bathroom
- It’s timeless. Unlike other design trends and fads that come and go, organic modern design has a timeless appeal that never goes out of style. You’ll never regret creating a spa-like oasis of a bathroom that feels peaceful and clean (even if you do experiment with other styles in the rest of the house!)
- It’s private and personal. Unlike the kitchen or living room, a bathroom is a deeply personal space. Organic modern design honors that intimacy with soft, mindful design choices.
- It promotes wellness. The emphasis on natural materials, greenery, soft lighting, and uncluttered design can help lower stress and promote well-being.
If you’re ready to transform your bathroom into an organic modern oasis, let’s dive into the 4 key areas of bathroom design: Fixtures & Foundations, Storage & Organization, Luxe Spa Accessories, and Natural Touches.

Table of Contents:
Spa-Like Fixtures & Foundations
1. Natural Travertine Floor and Wall Tiles
Travertine is a timeless choice for organic modern bathrooms: this naturally occurring limestone brings an earthy, organic texture that synthetic tiles simply can’t replicate. The subtle veining and creamy tones create a beautiful, neutral background for a spa-like bathroom.
Choose large format tiles (like 24×24 or 12×24) to minimize grout lines for a clean, seamless look that makes smaller spaces feel more expansive. And pro tip, opt for a honed or matte finish for better slip resistance—perfect for wet areas like showers or floors.
2. Organic Modern Bathroom Vanity
Look for a vanity with clean lines, wood grain texture, and ample closed storage to keep clutter out of sight. Floating vanities enhance the sense of space, especially in smaller bathrooms. Pair natural oak or walnut cabinetry with a stone countertop for the perfect mix of form and function.
3. Organic Modern Free-standing Bathtub
Not every bathroom is going to have the space for it, but if you do, add a beautiful, standalone tub for the ultimate, luxurious organic modern bathroom.
It’s the ultimate investment in your self care routine. A long, luxurious bath is the perfect way to relax after a long work day, along with a glass of wine and your favorite TV show or book.
Opt for a classic shape and finish for something that will last you a long time and never go out of style.

4. Rainforest Showerhead
Who doesn’t love a great rainforest shower with strong water pressure? A flat, large, shower-head can instantly elevate your everyday shower from a mundane chore to a luxurious, spa-like experience.
Opt for smooth, matte metal finishes for a look that complements the organic modern aesthetic. If you want to go all out, you could even add pebble flooring to your shower to make your shower feel like an outdoor jungle waterfall shower experience.

5. Stone Cut Sink

I don’t know about you, but any time I encounter a stone-cut sink in a hotel, spa or Airbnb, I instantly think more highly of the place. There’s just something so luxurious and inviting about washing your hands in a natural, stone basin.
Luckily, they come in all sorts of colors, finishes and price points. I love both this dark, charcoal stone cut sink, and this clay colored travertine one.

6. Organic Modern Dimmable Lighting Fixtures
Soft, warm lighting is crucial to setting the mood in any spa-like organic modern bathroom.
Install recessed dimmable lighting in your ceiling if possible to make it as un-intrusive as possible. Alternatively, you can use dimmable sconces or hanging light fixtures in warm tones and natural finishes like aged brass, ceramic, or wood.
Check out this gorgeous natural stone sconce, or this set of two, simple linen sconces from Amazon.

Decor & Storage
1. Moody Wall Art or Photography

Elevate your bathroom with some moody, minimalist artwork or black-and-white photography. Choose pieces that reflect calm, nature, or introspection — think close-up botanicals, nude portraits, or abstract color wash paintings. Stick to neutral or muted tones to maintain a spa-like feel.
Some of my favorite places to buy affordable original art and prints include:
If you’re feeling creative and handy, why not make some abstract DIY art yourself? It’s easier than you think, especially if you follow that Room Salad guide!
2. Mirror with wood border or curvy organic shape
Swap out a basic mirror for one with a curvy, organic shape or a natural wood frame. Curvy shapes are often found in nature and can soften harsh, man-made lines, while wood always brings natural warmth to a space.

3. Marble tray organizer
There’s just something so chic and luxurious about a marble tray organizer, keeping your countertops tidy. You can display your everyday bath products, toiletries, jewelry and more on them, without making your space look messy.
For an extensive guide to different types of bathroom tray organizers, check out this Room Salad post.

4. Baskets as Storage
Woven baskets are such a cute way to store extra toilet paper, rolled towels, or laundry. Opt for rattan, seagrass, or jute for that natural, organic modern look. You can slide them into shelving, underneath sinks, or just leave them out in the open – they look good anywhere!

5. Towel Ladder
Use a wooden towel ladder for a chic, space-saving way to store towels and clothes. It adds a charming, rustic touch to any organic modern bathroom.

6. Wooden bench or stool
A wooden bench or stool is a great way to introduce natural, organic materials into your bathroom. Plus, they’re super practical – you’ll probably find yourself needing a flat surface to store your change of clothes, towel, or glass of wine and book for self-care sessions.
I love both of these live edge wood stool options for how natural they look. They almost look like they could be found straight out of a forest!

Luxe Spa Accessories
Splurge on a few indulgent accessories to elevate your bathroom into a luxurious spa-like experience.
1. High Quality Towels & Bathrobe
Upgrade your towels and robe to hotel-quality plushness. Look for oversized, ultra-absorbent towels made of Turkish or Egyptian cotton, and a robe that feels like wrapping yourself in a cloud. These little luxuries instantly make your bathroom feel more curated and comforting.

2. Reed diffuser or natural scent
A reed diffuser is the ultimate low-maintenance way to keep your bathroom smelling divine at all times. Opt for scents that mimic a luxury spa experience like eucalyptus, sandalwood, lavender, or citrus scents. I LOVE this Palo Santo Reed Diffuser from Brooklyn Candle Company, a mild universally appealing scent.

3. Bougie bath products
Not all great bathrooms have bougie bath products, but all bathrooms that have bougie bath products are great 😉. In all seriousness, I genuinely think investing in some fancy bath products is one of the easiest ways to amp up the luxe factor in your bathroom.
Fancy hand soaps, shampoos and shower gels not only smell really good, they double as decor when they come in a chic bottle.

Some of my favorites are Malin + Goetz’s Bergamot hand and body wash, Ouai’s shower products and shampoo, and of course the iconic Aesop hand soaps. Also pro-tip: I found the most AMAZING dupe refill store for luxury bath products: Element Brooklyn. After you buy your fancy bath products once, just keep the bottle and refill with these dupes that smell almost identical to the original for a fraction of the price. Shhh – I won’t tell if you don’t!
4. Bathtub Tray
If a night of self care deep-soaking in the tub, reading your favorite book, and sipping wine sounds like your idea of heaven, you need a bath tray to complete your tub set up!
Opt for a high-quality, elegant wood bathtub tray, or a found driftwood option for a more rustic, primitive look.

5. Candles or small accent lamp for your shower and tub.
No relaxing home spa-night is complete with some moody, ambient lighting.
If you have shelf space or a side stool or bench, place scented candles on them for a soft, flickering glow. I love Maison Louis Marie’s No.4 Bois de Balincourt candle for its sophisticated, sandalwood scent that always reminds me of a fancy hotel lobby.
If open flames near water aren’t really your thing (I mean, that makes sense), you could also try out this waterproof, cordless shower lamp that has gone viral on Tiktok. Place it on a ledge in your shower and turn off the big lights for a moody, atmospheric shower experience.

Natural Elements
No organic modern bathroom is complete without some natural elements to breathe life into the space.
1. Eucalyptus

Add dried eucalyptus to your shower head to create a DIY aromatherapy experience in your bathroom.
Eucalyptus oil is known for its calming, rejuvenating smell, and the steam from your shower will release the plant’s scent all over your bathroom.
Tie a bunch of fresh eucalyptus together with some twine, and position it above your shower head such that it won’t get directly soaked for longevity. Replace it every 2 weeks or so to keep it fresh!
2. Plants
Plants in the bathroom? Absolutely! Plants can help create a soothing, natural atmosphere in your bathroom and help with air quality.
Opt for varieties that can thrive in humidity and low light conditions, such as pothos, snake plants, ZZ plants, or ferns.
Display plants in vases, small planters on shelves and countertops, or even hanging planters. For lower maintenance options, you can put a tree branch (the wood still adds a touch of wabi-sabi, organic charm) in a vase or fake plants.

3. Natural Fiber Bath Mats
For organic modern design, you should opt for natural fibers wherever possible, and bath mats are no exception.
Hard bath mats in the form of bamboo or teak can be an elegant, elevated option reminiscent of what you would find in a Japanese onsen or spa. It’s also durable because it resists mold and mildew better than fabric options.
If you prefer soft fabric bathmats, choose mats made out of 100% organic cotton or other natural fibers for a luxurious yet sustainable design choice.
